BIG GROVE – Two men were injured after a driver attempted a U-turn on Hwy. 1, directly in the path of an oncoming semi truck.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Jeremy Kingston, 40, of Dallas, Texas, was driving southbound on Hwy. 1 at about 7:20 p.m. Jan. 27, when he attempted a three-point U-turn near the intersection of 110th St. NE.

Larry Rasmussen, 61, of Lakefield, Minn., was traveling northbound in a semi truck when he collided with the passenger’s side of Kingston’s SUV.

The totaled SUV came to rest in the east ditch, and the disabled semi stopped on the east side of the roadway, the report said.

The report lists both Kingston and his passenger, 64-year-old Charles Wahr, as suffering “incapacitating” injuries. Both were extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means, and were transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics by Johnson County ambulance, the report said.

All three were listed as wearing their seatbelt, and Rasmussen was uninjured.
