Man burned at southwest Cedar Rapids home

CEDAR RAPIDS – One man suffered serious arm and leg burns this evening when he was working on a home improvement project, said Battalion Chief George Bockenstedt.

Emergency responders were called to 1702 14th Ave. SW around 7:30 p.m., where the man had been applying some type of coating near new drywall, said Bockenstedt. The victim was taken to Mercy Medical Center for care of his injuries, but may later be transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, said Bockenstedt.

There was no apparent damage to the outside of the home, and a neighbor said he never saw any fire or smoke.

The victim’s name was not immediately released by the fire department.
