IOWA CITY — Iowa City Area Crimestoppers are assisting the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office in obtaining information on a home burglary that occurred in Homestead, IA — and are asking the public for any information on the crime.
The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of several guns from a residence near the Johnson County and Iowa County border.
Police said they believe the incident occurred sometime between 11 p.m. on Monday, July 26 and 8 a.m. Tuesday July, 27. Someone forcibly entered a detached garrage at the residence and stole numerous riffles and shot guns, officers said.
The residents were home at the time, but not harmed, police said.
At 5:45 a.m., Tuesday July 27 a black, Dodge Ram pickup truck with white, stripped decals located on the rear of the truck was seen near the residence. Police said the truck was last seen speeding out of the area toward Johnson County.
Iowa City Area Crimestoppers is offering a reward up to $1,000 for any information leading to the arrest of suspects in this case. Those with information about the theft are urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS.
Police say all calls are held in strict confidence and anonymity. Individuals do not have to reveal their identity to collect a reward.
